As a rule, such a question arises when a man and a woman are still not close enough with each other. Perhaps they only met, and they have a first date planned.
Should a man pay for a woman
The mentality of Russian women is such that they do not consider it shameful for themselves to allow a man to pay for a cup of coffee or cinema tickets. Moreover, often this is considered to be granted.
The arguments in favor of this position are most often the following:
If a man is ready to pay for a woman, he thereby demonstrates to her his financial viability, which speaks of him as a stable and reliable partner.
A man who takes on the solution of financial issues is thereby showing concern for a woman and expresses sympathy for her.
But in reality, everything is far from so unambiguous. Some men do not consider themselves obliged to pay for any female whims, especially if they are not completely sure that the girl is ready to build relationships with them and for a long time. And some women support them in this.
Supporters of the financial independence of men and women argue their position with the following considerations:
Independently paying for herself, a woman does not feel an obligated man even in details, which means that she retains the right to make those decisions that are convenient first to her.
Expecting that a man will pay for her, a woman demonstrates a consumer attitude to her partner, shows that his financial well -being is a decisive factor for her in their relationship. At the same time, the personal qualities of a man seem to fade into the background, depreciate.
Subconscious patterns
Whatever arguments “for” and “against” modern representatives of both sexes put forward, it is not so easy to get rid of certain patterns that have been formed over the centuries and still implicitly influence the thoughts and actions of people.
Should a man pay for a woman
From time immemorial, the role of a breadwinner, protector and reliable support has remained with a man. Therefore, the willingness to provide for his woman was always perceived as a sign of power, strength and masculinity. It is simply impossible to eradicate such an idea in a few decades.
So, in the USA, the country of emancipation and “equality of the sexes”, a sociological study was conducted, during which about 20 thousand people were interviewed.
The results were quite unexpected: most respondents said that during the first meetings, a man should pay for cafes, cinema and other entertainment. Moreover, the vast majority of women participating in the survey noted that if the partner agrees to share the costs, then this is a warning signal for them, and they are not sure about the advisability of further meetings.
The men interviewed admitted that they would not be too pleased if their lady refused to pay for anything at all. They also noted that they would feel humiliated if their partner had to pay alone.
Should a man pay for a woman
On the other hand, a man who bears the costs often believes that his partner is obliged to reckon with his desires, because.e. he can expect her permission for the rapid development of relationships, including intimate. And many women subconsciously agree with this position.
Looking for a compromise
It turns out that there is no clear answer to the question of who should bear the costs during the first meetings.
Psychologists advise discussing this issue in advance, arranging a first date. This will help to avoid misunderstandings, mutual insults and claims that may hinder the further development of relations.
Should a man pay for a woman
There is nothing wrong with the fact that during the first meetings, both partners will pay their own expenses: after all, they are not yet close enough to make any commitments towards each other.
